Your Side Of The World
Your Side Of The World
Your Side Of The World
Can you see your side of the world?
Today, Wednesday, 22 November 2006, I’m starting to dig deeper into the lyrics of Steven Curtis Chapman, my Christian Music Superstar. And I’m starting with the song that is last in my alphabetical list of titles, which is this one, so when I’m done with the current list, you can read the whole thing top to bottom alphabetically. I have to start somewhere.
Now we see through the glass, darkly. From the ‘other’ side of the world, ‘your’ side of the world. Apt image by b4k4 who captions it ‘Choose Your Side!’ (flickr.com/). That’s the usual way to behave: choose one thing or the other, Nikon or Canon or Leica or Olympus or whatever. Which is a proper way to behave – as long as you understand why you’re choosing, all things being equal. Now, all other things being equal, your choice is usually based on how much you can afford.
In love, how much can you afford?
‘So here we are standing face to face’ – it can be a confrontation, it can be the blind not seeing the blind, or not knowing one is blind, or not knowing they are both blind to the grace of the day, to the grace of everyday.
So: ‘How does it look from your side?’ It takes some courage, or discernment, to ask that question or, in any case, it’s not easy to formulate it and ask it and expect an honest answer that will not hurt the one who is asking.
‘So tell me the color of your sky above / Paint me a picture of the things that make you smile.’ We can talk about negative things, but I would rather talk about the positive.
‘Don’t be surprised to find I’m not too far away / ‘Cause what we are both in search of is one and the same.’ Question: What is it that you are both in search of: Can it be love? Answer: It is always love. Love, the Corinthian kind of love. This is the kind of love everyone should afford, even if you have to pay dearly, beyond your means, if you know what I mean.
Your side of the world is the flipside of my side of the world.
Your Side Of The World
Steven Curtis Chapman
So here we are we’re standing face to face
And yet we seem to be a million miles apart
This world can feel like such a lonely place
It all depends on what you see from where you are
So please, please tell me what you can
‘Cause I want to understand
– Chorus –
How does it look from your side?
How does it look from where you are?
How does it look from your side
From your side of the world?
So tell me the color of your sky above
Paint me a picture of the things that make you smile
Show me your fears and what you’re dreaming of
Take me to where my heart can see across the miles
And please, please tell me what you can
‘Cause I want to understand
– Chorus –
Don’t be surprised to find I’m not too far away
‘Cause what we are both in search of is one and the same
So please, please tell me what you see
‘Cause I really want to be the one who understands
– Chorus –
